China Invests in Airport Construction Print  

Civil Aviation Administration of China reports to launch major airport construction and modernization program. The sum of investment is said to reach 30 billion CNY. “The efficiency of our investment in civil aviation development will result in 8 times bigger profits, it’s a great incentive to regional development” mentions Administration’s expert. Money is planned to be invested in construction and renovation of western China’s Kunming, Nanning, Chongqing cities, Guangxi and Yunnan  provinces’ airports. Middle-scale airports, able to accept aircrafts not bigger than B737 will be built there.

2008 China’s total amount of investment in civil aviation will reach 100 billion CNY. Big airports of Chengdu, Xian, Guangzhou, able to accept all types of aircrafts, will be renovated in 2009.  Moreover, Government plans to invest 200 billion CNY in building 40 new local airports around China in 2009. 

China Central Government Regular Council’s November 9 session worked out a list of 10 measures to raise domestic demand and support steady economic growth. Branch offices turn these plans into real numbers. Huge government investments are planned to favor stability in a number of economic sectors.

Hong Kong International Airport handled 3.8 million passengers and 296,000 tonnes of cargo in November 2008, representing a year-on-year drop of 5.6% and 18.7% respectively. Air traffic movements fell 1.3% from November 2007 to 24,815.
