Boeing, Volga-Dnepr Group Announce Order for Five 747-8 Freighters

Pudong airport moves up two notches to No.6
Shanghai Pudong International Airport climbed the ranks as the world’s sixth largest airport in terms of cargo traffic last year. The airport loaded 2,159,321 tons of freight and mail in 2006, a jump of 16.3 percent from a year before. The United State's Memphis Airport (3,692,200 tons) ranked No. 1 on the total cargo list, followed by the Hong Kong International Airport (3,608,800 tons) and the airports in United States' Anchorage (2,803,800 tons), South Korea's Seoul (2,336,600 tons); and Japan's Tokyo(2,280,000 tons).

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport upgrade approved
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport has won state approval for a 15.3 billion yuan expansion that features a second runway and a new terminal. The growth plan for the smaller of the city's two airports is expected to boost Hongqiao's capacity to 40 million passengers a year by 2015, according to the statement. The expansion project comprises a 3,300-meter runway and a new terminal with an area of 250,000 square meters, plus new public facilities.

22,700 new aircraft required to meet fleet modernisation and growth in next 20 years
Between 2006 and 2025, some 22,700 new passenger and freight aircraft valued at US$2.6 trillion will be required by aircraft operators, according to the latest Airbus Global Market Forecast. This represents an increase of some 5,400 aircraft compared with the previous one, made two years ago. China will purchase about 3000 new planes to meet the development of its civil aviation industry, China’s air transport volume ranked second in the world after USA.

China to buy 2,900 jets in next 20 years
CHINA is expected to buy nearly 2,900 new planes worth US$280 billion over the next 20 years. China will become the second largest aviation market next to the United States in the next 20 years, and the Chinese market will grow at the fastest pace.

HK Int'l Airport's new passenger terminal to open in February
Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) has invested HK$2.8 billion (US$358.6 million) in the new passenger terminal, known as Terminal 2 or T2, will begin phased opening next month. This investment will allow us to better meet passenger demand. In February, 130 retail and catering outlets and four entertainment zones will start opening in the 140,000-square-metre terminal. A 36-bay coach station will debut next, while 56 airline check-in counters and customs and immigration facilities will open afterwards.

Shanghai's Pudong to have biggest airfreight terminal in 2008
SHANGHAI's Pudong International Airport has started constructing what will eventually become mainland China's largest air cargo terminal in an effort to keep pace with anticipate growth in trade volumes. This comes amid projections that Pudong will handle the third largest quantity of airfreight worldwide by 2008, Xinhua News Agency reports, adding that the new facility will be inside the airport's west cargo handling area. Construction of the new airfreight terminal is set for completion by the end of 2007, with operations expected to commence early the following year. Today, the largest air cargo terminal in China is Super Terminal 1 at the Hong Kong International Airport. This facility has an annual capacity of 2.6 million tons, making it the world's largest air cargo handling facility.
